The MITSUBISHI 814602 is a CNMG-style carbide turning insert engineered for demanding metal removal applications. It carries the ANSI code CNMG543 and ISO code CNMG160612, with an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape and a neutral hand orientation. The insert is manufactured from carbide substrate and finished with a PVD coating in manufacturer grade MP9015, a grade characterized by high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness. With four available cutting edges and a negative side clearance, this insert delivers extended tool life per insert in high-productivity turning operations. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for roughing and medium machining operations on special and super alloys (ISO material code S). The chip breaker designation is RS, optimized for the aggressive chip loads typical of nickel-based, titanium, and cobalt-chromium alloys. It fits standard CNMG toolholders and is appropriate for both horizontal and vertical CNC lathes operating at parameters consistent with super alloy turning. Corner radius is 1.20 mm (3/64 inch, 0.0469 decimal inch), which balances edge strength with surface finish requirements in roughing passes.
Designed for use in standard CNMG-style turning toolholders. Suitable for super alloy, special alloy, and related high-temperature materials requiring high wear resistance. Confirm toolholder pocket dimensions and clamping style match CNMG insert geometry before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamp force. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for debris or damage before seating each new insert.
