The MITSUBISHI 659323 is a VBMT-style carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Built from carbide with a CVD coating in the MC7025 grade, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of cutting conditions. It features a 35-degree included angle with a 5-degree relief angle and a 0.40 mm (1/64 inch) corner radius, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing cuts where edge sharpness and surface finish matter. The neutral hand orientation and LM chip breaker geometry support controlled chip evacuation in demanding applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is appropriate for use in light to medium turning operations on steel, alloy steel, and similar workpiece materials where the MC7025 CVD-coated carbide grade is recommended. The VBMT style with its 35-degree rhombic shape allows access to tight shoulders and contoured profiles. The LM chip breaker geometry is optimized for low to medium feed rates, making it a practical choice for finishing passes that require consistent chip control and minimal vibration. It fits standard VBMT insert pockets on compatible turning toolholders.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard VBMT insert pocket toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a 3/16-inch thickness. Confirm toolholder pocket specifications before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp screw per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert. Always wear appropriate PPE when handling carbide inserts due to sharp cutting edges.
