Manufactured from cermet with a PVD coating, this insert carries the MP3025 grade designation and is engineered for high wear resistance to high toughness across steel workpiece applications. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a negative side clearance geometry, and a pressed chip breaker. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches in diameter and the insert thickness is 0.1875 inches. With four usable cutting edges per insert, the 616024 delivers consistent performance and cost efficiency per edge in production turning operations.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning of steel components in both light finishing and general-purpose machining applications. The ANSI insert code is CNMG431 and the ISO equivalent is CNMG120404, making cross-referencing straightforward for shops working in either standard. The MP3025 grade with PVD coating positions this insert within the P-category workpiece material range, targeting steel with a balance of wear resistance and edge toughness. It is a neutral-hand insert, compatible with standard CNMG toolholders, and applies to applications where controlled chip formation is critical.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard CNMG431 toolholder pockets accepting inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 0.1875-inch thickness, and negative clearance geometry. Verify toolholder specifications before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder pocket is clean and free of debris before seating the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edge for chips or damage before engaging the workpiece.
