The MITSUBISHI 189974 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ANSI and ISO designation QOMT1651R-M2 with a VP15TF manufacturer grade. The insert features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) AlTiN coating for heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting environments. With a positive rake geometry and a 1/32-inch (0.0310-inch decimal) corner radius, the 189974 is engineered for high-shear milling applications. It is sized at insert code 1651, measures 0.2000 inches thick, and is secured by screw-held mounting. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers of this single-sided, right-hand insert.
This insert is designed for milling of cast iron, stainless steel, and steel as primary workpiece materials, with secondary application suitability for steel, superalloys, and titanium. The M2 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across a range of depths of cut and feed rates typical in both roughing and semi-finishing passes. The QOMT series design makes it appropriate for face milling and shoulder milling operations on machining centers in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in QOMT-series milling toolholders that accept insert size code 1651 with a screw-holding method and right-hand orientation. Primary workpiece material compatibility includes cast iron (ISO K), stainless steel (ISO M), and steel (ISO P). Secondary compatibility covers steel (ISO H) and superalloys and titanium (ISO S).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder specification — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for debris or damage before installing a new insert.
