The MINWAX COMPANY, THE 65555 is a water-based polycrylic protective finish designed to seal and protect bare wood and previously stained wood surfaces. It dries to a hard, crystal-clear gloss film that resists scuffs and everyday wear. The water-based formula has very little odor compared to solvent-based finishes and cleans up with water, making it practical for interior woodworking projects. It is applied by finish carpenters, cabinetmakers, and experienced DIYers working on furniture, trim, doors, and shelving. The quart size covers typical small-to-medium interior projects efficiently.
This finish is well suited for interior residential applications where clarity and a non-yellowing film are priorities. Its great clarity makes it especially appropriate over light-colored woods and over Minwax water-based wood stains, where an oil-based finish could introduce an amber tint. Typical use cases include hardwood furniture, painted trim, built-ins, and decorative woodwork in living spaces, kitchens, and bedrooms.
Designed for use over bare interior wood surfaces and Minwax water-based wood stains. Performs best over light-colored woods where a non-yellowing, clear gloss topcoat is required.
Application is typically performed by finish carpenters or skilled DIYers using a high-quality synthetic brush or foam applicator on clean, dry, properly prepared wood. Ensure the substrate is free of dust, grease, and any incompatible solvent-based coatings before applying. Allow each coat to dry fully and lightly sand between coats with fine-grit sandpaper for best adhesion. Work in a well-ventilated area even though odor is minimal, and keep product away from open flames during application.
