The MILWAUKEE 86697 is a Thermomelt temperature indicating stick used to measure surface temperatures quickly and accurately without electronic instruments. Rated to a maximum of 350 degrees F, it is accurate to within plus or minus 1 percent of the rated Fahrenheit temperature. When applied to a surface, the mark appears dull and chalky. Once the target temperature is reached, the mark melts to a glossy, transparent liquid, giving a clear visual confirmation. The larger-format stick design extends service life compared to previous generations while maintaining the same proven reliability. Made in the USA.
This temperature indicating stick is suited for industrial and trade applications including annealing, forging, welding, bending, and forming operations. Any situation requiring a fast, low-cost surface temperature check is a valid use case. HVAC technicians, welders, pipefitters, and sheet metal workers commonly use heat sticks during fabrication, heat treatment, and material forming processes where surface temperature control is critical to part quality or code compliance.
Designed for general surface temperature indication across metal fabrication, welding, and heat treatment applications where a maximum temperature threshold of 350 degrees F must be confirmed.
Temperature indicating sticks are applied directly to the work surface before or during heating. Allow the marked surface to reach temperature gradually and observe the mark for the phase change from chalky to glossy. Do not apply the stick inside open flames or directly to energized electrical components. Welders and fabricators should follow applicable workplace safety standards when working near heated materials.
