The MILWAUKEE 49-57-8227 is a carbide-tipped annular cutter designed for cutting clean, drill-press-quality holes in steel plate during hand-held operations. The carbide cutting edge holds its edge longer than high speed steel or bi-metal hole saws, reducing the need for frequent tool changes on the job. The cutter produces a 1 inch diameter hole with a maximum cutting depth of 1/2 inch. For materials up to 3/8 inch thick, hand-held use is supported. For material thickness between 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch, a drill press is recommended to maintain cut quality and tool life.
This annular cutter is suited for steel plate fabrication, structural steel work, and ironwork applications where accurate hole sizing matters. It is typically used by ironworkers, millwrights, and mechanical contractors working with plate steel. When cutting depth exceeds 1/4 inch, the use of Hawg Wash cutting fluid is recommended to keep the cutting surface cool and properly lubricated. Hawg Wash cutting fluid is available in 16 oz. bottles (part 49-32-0081), with one bottle yielding one gallon of lubricating solution.
Designed for use with the MILWAUKEE quick-change arbor 49-57-0035. Intended for hand-held operations in steel plate up to 3/8 inch thick, with drill press use for material up to 1/2 inch cutting depth.
Installation and tool mounting should be performed by qualified tradespeople following the tool manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the arbor and cutter are fully secured before operation and that the workpiece is clamped or otherwise immobilized. Apply Hawg Wash cutting fluid when cutting depth exceeds 1/4 inch to prevent overheating and premature wear. Inspect the cutting edge before each use and replace the cutter if chipping or excessive wear is present.
