The MILWAUKEE 49-57-8221 is a carbide-tipped annular cutter designed for hand-held drilling operations in steel plate and similar materials. Carbide tipping allows this cutter to stay sharper longer than high speed steel or bi-metal hole saws, delivering drill-press-quality holes even when used in a hand-held drill. The cutter handles materials up to 3/8 inch thick in hand-held use, with a maximum cutting depth of 1/2 inch. For material thicknesses over 3/8 inch, a drill press is recommended. The stainless steel quick-change shank simplifies arbor swaps on the jobsite.
This cutter is suited for sheet plate cutting applications in structural steel fabrication, mechanical contracting, and ironwork. It is intended for use by electricians, pipefitters, ironworkers, and other trade professionals who need clean, accurate holes in steel plate without setup time. When cutting depth exceeds 1/4 inch, use of a cutting fluid such as Hawg Wash is recommended to keep the cutting surface cool and properly lubricated, extending cutter life and maintaining hole quality.
Designed for use with Milwaukee quick-change arbor 49-57-0035. Cutting fluid Hawg Wash (49-32-0081) is recommended for cuts deeper than 1/4 inch.
Installation and cutter changes should be performed with the drill unplugged or the tool battery removed. Secure the workpiece firmly before beginning any cut to prevent movement and ensure hole accuracy. When cutting depth exceeds 1/4 inch, apply cutting fluid to reduce heat buildup and extend cutter life. For material over 3/8 inch thick, transfer the operation to a drill press for best results and operator safety.
