The MILWAUKEE 49-57-8217 is a carbide-tipped annular cutter designed for steel plate cutting in both handheld and drill press operations. The carbide cutting edge holds an edge longer than high speed steel or bi-metal hole saw designs, producing clean, drill-press-quality holes even in handheld use. The cutter is rated for materials up to 3/8 inch thick in handheld operations and up to 1/2 inch cutting depth with a drill press. The stainless steel quick-change shank allows fast bit swaps. This cutter is sold as a single unit and weighs 0.17 pounds.
This cutter is suited for metal fabrication, ironworking, structural steel work, and mechanical contracting applications. It is intended for use on steel plate up to 3/8 inch thick in handheld mode. For material between 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch cutting depth, a drill press setup is recommended to maintain hole quality and extend tool life. When cutting depth exceeds 1/4 inch, Hawg Wash cutting fluid should be used to keep the cutting surface cool and lubricated. Hawg Wash is available separately in 16 oz. bottles (49-32-0081), with one bottle producing one gallon of lubricating solution.
Designed for use with MILWAUKEE quick-change arbor 49-57-0035. Suitable for handheld magnetic drill operations and drill press applications on steel plate.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified tradespeople familiar with metal drilling and cutting operations. Before mounting or changing the cutter, ensure the drill or press is fully powered down and the arbor is secure. Do not exceed the rated cutting depth for handheld operations. When cutting depth is over 1/4 inch, apply Hawg Wash or equivalent cutting fluid to prevent heat buildup and premature wear.
