The MILWAUKEE 48-89-2727 is a black oxide jobber length drill bit engineered for high-cycle use in metal, wood, and general construction applications. Built on the Thunderbolt platform, it features a thicker web core than standard jobber bits, which increases torsional strength and reduces the risk of side-load breakage during aggressive drilling. The 135-degree split point tip starts on contact without a center punch, eliminating bit walk and improving hole placement accuracy. At 6 inches in length, it handles standard jobber-depth drilling tasks while remaining compatible with most portable drill drivers and drill presses used in the trades.
This bit is suited for electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs, and general contractors who drill through steel framing, pipe straps, brackets, and sheet metal on the jobsite. The parabolic flute geometry evacuates chips quickly, reducing heat buildup and extending cutting life between sharpenings. The 3-flat shank design locks firmly in drill chucks and resists slipping under load. The reduced shank diameter allows use in 3/8-inch chucks, making it compatible with a wide range of compact and mid-size drill drivers common on residential and light commercial job sites.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement or supplemental bit for use with standard keyed and keyless drill chucks accepting reduced-shank drill bits, including 3/8-inch chuck models.
Installed and operated by electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and general contractors. Ensure the drill chuck is fully tightened onto the 3-flat shank before operation. When drilling metal, use appropriate cutting fluid to extend bit life and reduce heat. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace bits that show visible chipping or dulling to avoid inaccurate holes or bit failure.
