The MILWAUKEE 48-89-2529 is a cobalt jobber-length twist drill bit engineered for drilling hard metals including stainless steel, cast iron, and high-strength alloys. It features a variable helix geometry that transitions from a 35-degree cutting angle to a 15-degree angle at the shank, promoting rapid chip evacuation and reducing heat buildup during extended drilling cycles. The 135-degree split point tip provides a self-starting cut, eliminating the need for a center punch and preventing the bit from walking on contact. Intended for use by machinists, ironworkers, pipefitters, and general trade professionals working in metal fabrication and field applications.
This bit is suited for hard metal applications in both shop and field environments, including drilling stainless steel, tool steel, and other ferrous materials that cause premature wear in standard high-speed steel or black oxide bits. The jobber length format is compatible with standard 3-jaw drill chucks on corded and cordless drills as well as drill presses. The metric sizing designation makes it appropriate for metric hole specifications common in industrial and OEM fabrication work. It is sold individually as a single bit.
Designed for use in standard 3-jaw drill chucks on corded drills, cordless drills, and drill presses; suitable for all general twist drilling applications with primary use in hard metal materials.
Install and remove drill bits only with the drill power disconnected or the tool switched off and the chuck fully stopped. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling hard metals to extend bit life and maintain dimensional accuracy. Secure workpieces firmly before drilling to prevent movement. Inspect the bit for chipping or dulling before each use; a damaged split point will cause inaccurate starts and increased heat.
