The MILWAUKEE 48-89-2523 is a cobalt jobber-length twist drill bit engineered for hard metal applications where standard high-speed steel bits fail prematurely. It features a variable helix geometry that transitions from a 35-degree cutting angle to a 15-degree angle at the shank, promoting rapid chip evacuation and reducing heat buildup during continuous drilling. The 135-degree split point tip allows the bit to self-center on contact, eliminating the need for a center punch in most applications. Sold individually, this bit is sized to metric specification and is intended for use by machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and industrial maintenance technicians working on structural steel, stainless, and other hard metals.
This bit is suited for jobsite and shop drilling in hard ferrous metals including carbon steel, alloy steel, and hardened stock. The cobalt alloy construction allows it to retain cutting hardness at elevated temperatures, making it a practical choice for sustained production drilling without frequent bit changes. The secure-grip shank geometry is designed to resist slipping inside a standard drill chuck under torque load. This bit can also be used in general-purpose twist drilling applications beyond hard metal when needed.
Designed as a jobber-length twist drill bit compatible with standard keyed and keyless drill chucks accepting round-shank bits. Suitable for use in corded and cordless drill drivers, drill presses, and magnetic base drills configured for jobber-length tooling.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified tradespeople familiar with metal drilling operations. Secure the bit fully in the chuck before operation and confirm the chuck is properly tightened to prevent slippage under load. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling hardened or stainless steel to extend bit life and manage heat. Follow OSHA and facility-specific PPE requirements, including eye protection, when operating drilling equipment.
