The MILWAUKEE 48-89-2302 is a 5/64-inch cobalt jobber-length twist drill bit built for hard metal applications where standard high-speed steel bits wear out quickly. The bit is constructed from cobalt alloy, which extends service life by up to 15 times compared to black oxide drill bits. A variable helix design with an aggressive 35-degree helix angle transitioning to 15 degrees accelerates material extraction and reduces heat buildup. The 135-degree split point tip starts on contact without walking, delivering accurate, consistent holes. An enhanced tapered web reinforces the core for added flute durability under heavy-feed conditions.
This bit is suited for drilling hard metals, PVC, and wood in both residential and commercial trade applications. Electricians, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and general contractors reach for cobalt bits when working through steel strut, box frames, schedule pipe flanges, or other ferrous materials that defeat standard bits. The 3-flat shank keeps the bit seated securely in a standard chuck and prevents slippage during high-torque drilling. It is sold individually, making it a practical replacement or add-on to an existing cobalt set.
Designed as a jobber-length cobalt twist drill bit for use in standard keyed and keyless drill chucks accepting a 3-flat shank; suitable for corded drills, cordless drills, and drill presses.
Cobalt drill bits should be installed by securing the 3-flat shank fully into the chuck before tightening. Always wear appropriate eye protection when drilling metal. Apply consistent feed pressure and use a cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling hard metals to reduce heat and extend bit life. Inspect the bit tip for wear or chipping before each use.
