The MILWAUKEE 48-89-2229 is a titanium-coated jobber-length drill bit built for demanding jobsite use across wood, metal, and PVC applications. The titanium coating reduces heat buildup and extends edge retention for up to three times longer service life compared to standard high-speed steel bits. A thickened Thunderbolt web core adds torsional strength and resistance to side-load breakage. The 135-degree split point tip starts on contact without center-punching and prevents walking on curved or irregular surfaces. Designed for licensed tradespeople and skilled installers who need consistent hole quality through a full shift.
This bit is suited for residential and light commercial installation work involving metal framing, conduit, plumbing rough-in penetrations, HVAC sheet metal, and general-purpose wood boring. The parabolic flute geometry evacuates chips quickly to reduce clogging during deep-hole drilling. The reduced shank diameter allows use in standard 3/8-inch drill chucks, making it compatible with compact drills commonly used in tight mechanical spaces. The 3-flat Secure-Grip shank seats firmly in the chuck and resists slipping under torque.
Designed for use with portable drills equipped with 3/8-inch or larger keyed or keyless chucks. Suitable for drilling wood, metal, and PVC in trade applications.
Installation of this bit should be performed by qualified tradespeople familiar with rotary drilling tools. Ensure the drill is unpowered and the chuck is fully tightened around the 3-flat shank before operation. Select appropriate drill speed for the material being drilled — lower speeds for harder metals, higher speeds for wood and PVC. Inspect the bit for wear or chipping before each use and replace if the cutting edge is degraded.
