The MILWAUKEE 48-89-2228 is a titanium-coated jobber length drill bit engineered for extended service life in demanding job site conditions. The titanium coating reduces heat build-up and keeps the cutting edge sharp, delivering up to three times longer life compared to standard uncoated bits. A thicker web core adds structural strength and resists side-load breakage during high-torque drilling. The 135-degree split point tip starts on contact without center-punching, and the parabolic flute geometry evacuates chips rapidly to keep the cut clean. At 5 7/8 inches in overall length, this is a standard jobber-length bit suited to general-purpose hole-making across a range of materials.
This bit is designed for drilling through wood, metal, and PVC, making it a versatile option for HVAC installers, electricians, plumbers, and general construction trades. The 3-flat shank seats securely in drill chucks and reduces rotational slipping under load. A reduced shank diameter allows use in 3/8-inch chucks, broadening compatibility with compact cordless drills commonly carried on residential and light commercial service calls. Curved surfaces present no special difficulty due to the self-starting split point geometry.
Designed for use with standard 3/8-inch and larger keyed or keyless drill chucks on corded and cordless portable drills. Effective on wood, metal, and PVC substrates.
Drill bits of this type are installed and used by licensed electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and other trade professionals. Ensure the drill is powered off and the chuck is fully tightened onto the 3-flat shank before operation. Follow applicable OSHA and job site PPE requirements, including eye protection, when drilling metal. Do not use this bit in a hammer-drill mode.
