The MILWAUKEE 48-89-2220 is a titanium-coated jobber-length drill bit engineered for extended service life in demanding trade environments. The titanium coating reduces heat build-up to deliver up to 3x longer bit life compared to standard uncoated bits. A thicker-than-standard web core resists side-load breakage, making the bit suitable for drilling curved surfaces and high-cycle production work. The parabolic flute geometry clears chips quickly to keep the cutting edge engaged. This bit measures 6.75 inches in overall length and is sized for use with 3/8-inch chucks. HVAC technicians, electricians, plumbers, and general contractors use this type of bit for drilling through wood, metal, and PVC during rough-in and service work.
The 48-89-2220 is well suited for jobsite drilling applications where bit longevity and starting accuracy matter. The 135-degree split point tip starts on contact without a center punch, reducing setup time on metal and other hard surfaces. The 3-flat shank design locks into the drill chuck to prevent slipping under torque. Its reduced shank diameter allows it to fit standard 3/8-inch portable drill chucks, which are common on jobsites across electrical, mechanical, and plumbing trades.
Designed for use with standard 3/8-inch keyed and keyless drill chucks on portable corded and cordless drills. Suitable for drilling wood, metal, and PVC.
Install the bit fully into the drill chuck and tighten all flats before drilling. Ensure the drill is set to the appropriate speed for the material being drilled — lower speeds for metal, higher speeds for wood and PVC. Inspect the bit tip for wear or chipping before each use; a dull or damaged tip reduces accuracy and increases heat. Dispose of worn bits per your shop or jobsite policy for sharp metal objects.
