Milwaukee’s 48-20-5402 solid carbide SDS-Max core drill bit is designed for drilling large holes where depth is relatively shallow. This core bit operates by cutting a kerf, leaving an inside core that must be removed by the operator before deeper drilling is possible. A centering bit, Milwaukee part 48-20-5495, is recommended for optimal results, though it is sold separately. The bit is suitable for use with either SDS-Max or spline shanks and is available in various diameters, ranging from one and a half inches to six inches, with an overall length of twenty-two inches and a drilling depth of three inches.
This tool maximizes energy transfer and efficiency during operation, utilizing an asymmetric tooth pitch that enhances material pulverization. The thick-wall core body provides durability, even under the strain of large hammers. Additionally, the fluted core design minimizes friction loss and promotes faster debris removal.
