The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 40104 is a rough brass pipe nipple sized at 1 inch nominal diameter by 3-1/2 inches in length. Rough brass nipples are short-length externally threaded pipe fittings used to make close connections between female-threaded fittings, valves, and equipment. The rough brass finish indicates an unlacquered, as-cast or as-machined surface — standard for plumbing and gas distribution applications where the fitting will be concealed or where finish appearance is not a requirement. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of nipple in water, gas, and compressed air lines.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, gas supply piping, and compressed air distribution. The 1-inch nominal thread size is common in main branch lines and appliance connections. The 3-1/2 inch working length provides enough extension to clear escutcheons, panels, or fitting bodies where a close or hex nipple would be too short. Typical install scenarios include water heater connections, gas valve stub-outs, and manifold assemblies.
Designed as a standard NPT rough brass pipe nipple for use with 1-inch female-threaded fittings, valves, and equipment in plumbing and gas piping assemblies.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes and the International Plumbing Code or International Fuel Gas Code. Shut off and depressurize the supply line before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to the external threads before assembly. Do not over-tighten brass fittings, as brass is softer than iron and susceptible to thread damage under excessive torque.
