The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 40068 is a brass pipe nipple designed for connecting threaded pipe sections in plumbing, HVAC, and gas distribution systems. Measuring 1/2 inch in diameter and 5 inches in length, this close-tolerance fitting provides a reliable threaded connection between valves, fittings, and other piped components. Brass construction offers good corrosion resistance and is well suited for use with water, air, and compatible gas lines. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians commonly install this type of nipple when assembling or extending threaded pipe runs.
This nipple is appropriate for both residential and light commercial applications. Typical use cases include connecting shutoff valves, pressure gauges, drains, and other threaded fittings in water supply lines, compressed air systems, and low-pressure gas piping. The 1/2-inch size is one of the most common thread sizes encountered in trade work and fits standard NPT pipe trains.
Designed as a standard NPT-threaded replacement or new-installation nipple for 1/2-inch threaded pipe systems in plumbing, HVAC, and light commercial gas or air piping.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber, pipefitter, or qualified HVAC technician in accordance with applicable local plumbing and mechanical codes. Shut off and depressurize the system before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten, as brass threads can be damaged by excessive torque.
