The MICRO 100 FRT-3 is a convex radius-cutting tool bit designed for precision lathe work requiring a consistent, repeatable radius profile on the workpiece. Tipped with brazed solid carbide, it delivers the hardness and wear resistance needed for interrupted cuts and abrasive materials. The tool bit carries a 0.0938-inch nose radius and mounts on a 3/8-inch square shank, making it compatible with standard tool holders in that size class. Right-hand cutting orientation suits the majority of engine lathe setups. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this style of form tool when generating convex contours on shafts, shoulders, and decorative profiles in a single pass.
This tool bit is suited for use in production and job-shop environments where convex radius forms must be held to tight tolerances. The FRT style is commonly used on manual engine lathes and CNC turning centers equipped with square shank tool posts. It is appropriate for turning ferrous and non-ferrous metals as well as some plastics. The 3/8-inch shank fits tool posts and holders commonly found on mid-size lathes used in both industrial and maintenance machining operations.
Designed as an OEM-style form tool bit for use in 3/8-inch square shank tool holders on manual and CNC engine lathes.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom professional. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle before seating or adjusting the tool bit in the holder. Ensure the tool bit is clamped securely and set on center height before initiating a cut. Inspect the brazed carbide tip for cracks or edge damage before each use, as damaged form tools can transfer profile errors directly to the finished part.
