The MICRO 100 BB-2901500G is a solid carbide boring bar designed for internal diameter machining in precision metalworking applications. It features a 0.290-inch minimum bore diameter and a maximum bore depth of 1.5 inches, making it suited for small-bore work where rigidity and tool life are critical. The 5/16-inch shank diameter and 2.5-inch overall length are sized for use in CNC lathes, manual lathes, and boring setups requiring tight dimensional control. A 0.006-inch corner radius is ground into the cutting edge to balance surface finish quality with edge strength. Machinists and toolroom professionals working in production or job-shop environments are the primary users of this tool.
This boring bar is intended for right-hand cutting operations on small internal bores in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The solid carbide construction makes it appropriate for applications demanding high stiffness and resistance to deflection, particularly when boring depths approach the maximum capacity. It is well-suited for finish boring passes where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are the priority. Shops running high-speed cutting programs or working with hardened materials will benefit from the rigidity solid carbide provides over steel-shanked alternatives.
Designed for use in lathe boring bar holders and tool blocks accepting a 5/16-inch round shank. Verify minimum bore diameter clearance and maximum bore depth against the specific workpiece requirements before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's tooling setup guidelines. Secure the shank firmly in the boring bar holder with adequate clamping length to minimize overhang and deflection. Power down and lock out the machine before changing or adjusting tooling. Do not exceed the stated maximum bore depth, as doing so increases deflection risk and may cause tool damage or workpiece scrap.
