The METALCRAFT 581614 is a tapered duct reducer used to transition between two different rectangular duct sizes in forced-air HVAC distribution systems. Fabricated from 28-gauge hot-dipped galvanized steel, it provides corrosion resistance suitable for both supply and return air applications. The fitting measures 16 inches by 14 inches and belongs to the 58 Series line of sheet metal fittings. Sheet metal workers and HVAC installers use this type of reducer when a duct run changes cross-section, whether due to load calculations, space constraints, or branch takeoff routing.
This reducer is intended for use in residential and light commercial duct systems where rectangular sheet metal ductwork is installed. It is suited for trunk-line transitions, branch reductions, and other layout scenarios requiring a stepped-down duct profile. The 58 Series designation identifies it within the Southwark product family of stamped and formed galvanized fittings, commonly stocked by HVAC wholesalers and used in new construction and replacement duct work alike.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting for rectangular sheet metal duct systems using 16-inch by 14-inch duct connections.
Installation is performed by licensed sheet metal workers or HVAC technicians. The system should be shut down and de-energized before any duct modification work begins. Fittings of this type are typically secured with sheet metal screws and sealed with UL 181-rated duct mastic or foil tape per local mechanical code requirements. Do not use standard cloth-backed duct tape as a primary sealant.
