The METABO 623178000 is a Type 29 zirconia alumina flap disc designed for use with 4.5-inch angle grinders. It measures 4.5 inches in diameter with a 7/8-inch arbor hole and runs at a maximum of 13,300 RPM. The coated abrasive flaps are bonded to a fiberglass backing plate, which provides consistent flex and support across the disc face during grinding. At 120 grit, this disc falls in the fine grade range, making it well suited for blending, light material removal, and surface finishing on metal workpieces. It belongs to the Original Flapper series and is identified by its blue disc color.
This flap disc is rated for use on cast iron, sheet steel, stainless steel, and general steel stock. The Type 29 conical geometry increases surface contact area compared to a flat Type 27 disc, making it a preferred choice when working on flat surfaces or when moderate stock removal combined with a refined finish is needed. It is commonly used in fabrication shops, maintenance environments, and field metalwork applications where an angle grinder is the primary tool. Licensed tradespeople and experienced metalworking professionals are the typical installers.
Designed for use with 4.5-inch angle grinders. Rated for material applications including cast iron, sheet steel, stainless steel, and steel. The 7/8-inch arbor attachment is compatible with standard angle grinder arbor configurations.
Mounting and disc changes should be performed by a qualified operator with the grinder fully powered down and unplugged or battery removed. Confirm the grinder guard is in place and that the tool RPM rating meets or exceeds the 13,300 RPM disc rating before use. Inspect the disc for damage before each use and discard any disc showing cracks, tears, or separation of the flap material. Always use the correct arbor hardware supplied with the angle grinder to secure the disc properly.
