The MERIT BRASS XNL114-4832 is a hex head pipe bushing designed to reduce a 3-inch male NPT connection down to a 2-inch female NPT port. Built from rough brass at a 125 lb pressure rating, this bushing is a standard reducing fitting used in plumbing, HVAC, and industrial piping systems. The hexagonal head allows for wrench engagement during installation, providing the torque needed to seat NPT threads properly. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting when transitioning between pipe sizes in low- to medium-pressure systems.
This bushing is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing installations, as well as HVAC hydronic systems and general fluid handling applications. The 3 x 2 inch nominal sizing makes it a common reducing fitting where a larger-diameter line steps down to a smaller branch or component connection. The MNPT x FNPT end style allows it to thread directly onto male-threaded pipe while accepting a female-threaded fitting or pipe on the outlet side.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 3-inch male NPT to 2-inch female NPT threaded pipe systems in plumbing, HVAC, and general industrial fluid handling applications.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before beginning work. Apply thread sealant tape or pipe dope to the male NPT threads before threading in the bushing. Use a properly sized wrench on the hex head to tighten — do not use pipe wrenches on the body, as this can deform the fitting.
