The MERIT BRASS XNL112-2416 is a brass pipe reducer coupling designed to connect two pipes of different diameters in a threaded piping system. It transitions from a 1-1/2 inch nominal pipe size down to a 1 inch nominal pipe size using female National Pipe Taper (FNPT) threads on both ends. Rated at 125 lb pressure class, this fitting is suited for low-to-medium pressure fluid and gas service lines. The rough brass finish indicates an unplated, as-cast surface. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers in both residential and light commercial applications.
This reducer coupling is commonly used in water supply lines, compressed air distribution, hydronic heating systems, and general industrial fluid handling where a pipe size reduction is required. The FNPT thread pattern on both ends allows direct makeup with standard NPT-threaded pipe, fittings, and valves. Its 125 lb pressure class rating makes it appropriate for typical building service piping operating at moderate pressures and temperatures.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for standard NPT-threaded brass piping systems with 1-1/2 inch and 1 inch nominal pipe sizes.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the IPC. Shut off and depressurize the supply line completely before disassembly or fitting makeup. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male NPT threads being joined — do not apply sealant to female threads. Hand-tighten first, then use a pipe wrench to bring the joint to full thread engagement without over-torquing, which can crack brass fittings.
