The MERIT BRASS XNL111-20 is a straight pipe coupling designed for joining two sections of threaded pipe in a continuous run. It features female National Pipe Taper (FNPT) ends on both sides and a 125 lb pressure rating, making it suitable for a wide range of low-to-medium pressure fluid and gas distribution systems. Constructed from rough brass, it offers solid corrosion resistance for use in plumbing and mechanical piping applications. The 1-1/4 inch nominal pipe size fits standard Schedule 40 pipe threads. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the typical installers for this type of fitting.
This coupling is commonly used in residential and light commercial plumbing, hydronic heating systems, compressed air lines, and gas distribution piping where a straight, in-line pipe connection is required. The 1-1/4 inch nominal size is frequently encountered in supply mains, branch runouts, and equipment connections. Its brass construction makes it well suited for installations where dezincification-resistant or copper-compatible fittings are preferred over iron or steel alternatives.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with 1-1/4 inch NPT threaded pipe systems in standard plumbing and mechanical piping applications.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the International Plumbing Code (IPC) or applicable local codes. Always shut off and depressurize the supply line before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to male threads before makeup, and hand-tighten before applying wrench torque. Do not over-torque brass fittings, as the material is more susceptible to thread damage than iron or steel.
