The MERIT BRASS XNL106-161608 is a brass pipe reducer tee designed for threaded piping systems where the run remains full bore and the branch reduces to a smaller diameter. This fitting features female National Pipe Taper (FNPT) threads on all three ports, with a 1 x 1 x 1/2 inch nominal size configuration — 1 inch on both run ends and 1/2 inch on the branch outlet. Rated at 125 lb, it is suited for low-to-medium pressure service in plumbing, HVAC, and light industrial applications. Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters working on threaded brass piping systems.
This reducer tee is used in residential and commercial plumbing and hydronic systems where a branch takeoff at a reduced diameter is required without changing the main line size. Common applications include water distribution, compressed air lines, fuel gas service where brass is approved, and HVAC hydronic piping. The rough finish is standard for installations where the fitting will be concealed or functional appearance is not required.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded fitting for use with 1 inch and 1/2 inch NPT-threaded pipe in standard brass piping assemblies.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off and depressurize the affected piping system before disassembly or fitting installation. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to male threads before assembly — do not over-torque brass fittings, as the material is softer than iron and susceptible to cracking. Verify that brass is an approved material for the intended service medium under local code before installation.
