The MERIT BRASS XB112-3224 is a brass pipe reducing coupling designed to connect two different pipe sizes in threaded piping systems. It transitions from a 2-inch female pipe thread to a 1-1/2-inch female pipe thread using standard FBSPT connections on both ends. Rated Class 125, this fitting is suited for moderate-pressure applications in water, fuel oil, and general-service piping. The all-brass construction resists corrosion and provides reliable sealing when assembled with compatible male-threaded pipe ends. Plumbers and pipefitters install this coupling wherever a reduction in pipe diameter is required within a threaded system.
This reducing coupling is used in residential and light commercial plumbing, hydronic heating, and industrial piping installations where a threaded inline size reduction is needed. It accepts standard NPT male-threaded pipe on both ends and is commonly installed in supply lines, distribution manifolds, and branch connections where flow transitions from 2-inch to 1-1/2-inch pipe. Its compact form factor fits into tight spaces typical of mechanical room installations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for threaded brass piping systems using 2-inch and 1-1/2-inch nominal pipe sizes with NPT threads.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or local plumbing codes. Shut off and depressurize the system before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male pipe threads before assembly. Do not over-tighten, as excessive torque can crack brass fittings or damage threads.
