The MERIT BRASS XB112-2420 is a brass pipe reducing coupling designed to connect two different pipe sizes in a threaded piping system. It reduces from a 1-1/2 inch female connection down to a 1-1/4 inch female connection, with female British Standard Pipe Taper (FBSPT) threads on both ends. Rated at Class 125, this coupling is suited for moderate-pressure service in water, oil, and gas distribution lines. The all-brass construction provides corrosion resistance and reliable sealing at threaded joints. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting during new construction or retrofit work where pipe diameter transitions are required.
This reducing coupling is used in residential and light commercial plumbing systems, hydronic heating lines, compressed air distribution, and general fluid handling applications. It is appropriate wherever a transition from 1-1/2 inch to 1-1/4 inch threaded pipe is needed without an additional fitting. The FBSPT x FBSPT end configuration accepts standard tapered male pipe threads on both the supply and receiving sides of the joint.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard 1-1/2 inch and 1-1/4 inch male tapered pipe thread connections in Class 125 rated piping systems.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified pipefitters. Shut off and depressurize the supply line completely before removing or installing any threaded pipe fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male pipe threads before making up the joint, following local plumbing code requirements. Do not over-torque; hand-tighten first, then use a pipe wrench to complete the joint per applicable IPC or local code guidance.
