The MERIT BRASS XB112-1204 is a brass pipe reducing coupling designed to connect two female threaded pipe ends of different sizes within a single fitting. It transitions from a 3/4-inch female thread to a 1/4-inch female thread, using standard FBSPT (Female British Standard Pipe Taper) connections on both ends. Built to Class 125 pressure rating, this coupling is suitable for moderate-pressure piping systems. Its all-brass construction provides corrosion resistance in both liquid and gas service applications. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians use this fitting when reducing line size within a threaded piping assembly.
This reducing coupling is commonly installed in residential and light commercial plumbing, HVAC, and compressed air systems where a pipe run must step down from 3/4 inch to 1/4 inch. Typical applications include instrument taps, gauge ports, control line connections, and branch reductions in water, steam, air, and compatible fluid systems. The threaded FBSPT ends allow direct makeup with male-threaded pipe nipples or fittings without additional adapters.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation reducing coupling compatible with standard 3/4-inch x 1/4-inch female threaded pipe systems rated at Class 125 or lower.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the supply line fully before disassembling any threaded connections. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to male threads before makeup. Do not overtighten threaded brass fittings, as excessive torque can crack the fitting body.
