The MERIT BRASS XB112-0806 is a brass pipe reducing coupling designed to connect two female threaded pipe ends of different sizes within a piping system. It transitions from a 1/2-inch female BSP tapered (FBSPT) thread to a 3/8-inch FBSPT thread, allowing a step-down in pipe diameter without additional adapters. Built to Class 125 pressure ratings, this fitting is suited for low-pressure fluid and gas distribution applications. Plumbers and pipefitters install this coupling during new construction and retrofit work where pipe size reductions are needed at inline connections. The all-brass construction provides corrosion resistance and reliable thread engagement.
This reducing coupling is used in residential and light commercial plumbing systems, hydronic heating lines, and general-purpose fluid handling applications where a 1/2-inch to 3/8-inch pipe reduction is required. Its FBSPT x FBSPT end configuration accepts standard tapered male pipe threads on both connecting pipes, making it a straightforward inline fitting for branch connections, supply lines, and distribution manifolds. No special tools beyond standard pipe wrenches are required for most installations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-use reducing coupling compatible with 1/2-inch x 3/8-inch female BSP tapered threaded pipe connections in Class 125 piping systems.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements. Shut off the water supply or system pressure and depressurize the line before removing any existing fittings. Apply thread sealant tape or pipe compound to the male threads of the connecting pipes before engaging the coupling. Do not overtighten; use a pipe wrench with controlled torque to achieve a leak-free seal without stressing the fitting threads.
