The MERIT BRASS XB112-0402 is a brass pipe reducing coupling designed to connect two female threaded pipe ends of different sizes in a single fitting. It transitions from a 1/4-inch port to a 1/8-inch port using Female British Standard Pipe Taper (FBSPT) threads on both ends. The Class 125 pressure rating makes it suitable for low- to medium-pressure systems in plumbing, HVAC, and light industrial piping applications. Plumbers and pipefitters use this fitting to reduce line size at connection points without additional adapters. The all-brass construction resists corrosion and holds up to moderate temperatures.
This reducing coupling is used in residential and light commercial piping systems where a branch line or instrument port must step down from 1/4-inch to 1/8-inch pipe. Common applications include compressed air lines, water supply connections, fuel gas distribution manifolds, and instrumentation hook-ups. It is appropriate for use wherever a threaded FBSPT-to-FBSPT transition is required within the Class 125 pressure envelope. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians typically install this fitting during system assembly or repair.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for threaded brass pipe systems requiring a 1/4-inch to 1/8-inch FBSPT reducing connection at Class 125 rated service conditions.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable codes such as the IPC or IFGC depending on the service fluid. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before removing any existing fitting or making new connections. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Do not over-tighten brass fittings, as the material can crack under excessive torque.
