The MERIT BRASS XB103-20 is a brass 90-degree street elbow designed for threaded pipe systems requiring a compact directional change. It features female British Standard Pipe Taper (FBSPT) on one end and male British Standard Pipe Taper (MBSPT) on the other, allowing it to thread directly into a fitting or valve without a separate nipple. Rated Class 125, this elbow is suited for moderate-pressure plumbing and piping applications. Fitting size is 1-1/4 inches. Weight is approximately 1.03 pounds. Plumbers and pipefitters install this type of elbow where space constraints make a standard elbow and nipple combination impractical.
This street elbow is used in residential and light commercial plumbing, gas distribution, and general fluid-handling piping systems. The FBSPT x MBSPT threaded configuration makes it a direct insertion fitting, reducing the number of joints in a tight run. It is appropriate for systems where a 90-degree change of direction is required at a valve, tee, or other female-threaded outlet. Typical applications include water supply lines, low-pressure steam lines, and compressed air distribution where brass construction is specified.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 1-1/4 inch threaded pipe systems using FBSPT x MBSPT connections rated at Class 125.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten brass fittings, as the material is softer than iron and can crack under excessive torque.
