The MERIT BRASS X116-06 is a brass pipe end cap designed to terminate open pipe ends in threaded piping systems. Rated at Class 125, this cap accepts a 3/8-inch female NPT (FNPT) threaded connection, making it suitable for sealing off gas, water, or air lines during installation, maintenance, or system modification. Weighing just 0.07 pounds, it is a compact fitting intended for close-quarters work where a secure, leak-resistant pipe termination is required. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers, though HVAC technicians frequently use end caps when capping unused ports in piping assemblies.
This end cap is used in residential and light commercial plumbing, HVAC, and compressed air piping systems where 3/8-inch threaded pipe terminations are needed. It is appropriate for applications requiring a Class 125 pressure-rated fitting with FNPT threading. Common scenarios include capping branch lines, sealing test ports, and closing off unused pipe runs during system modifications or phased installations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fitting for 3/8-inch FNPT threaded piping systems rated at Class 125 or below.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely before installing or removing any threaded end cap. Apply appropriate thread sealant tape or compound to the male pipe threads before threading on the cap; do not apply sealant to the first thread. Tighten with a pipe wrench to a secure fit and pressure-test the assembly before returning the system to service.
