The MERIT BRASS SWM687-20 is a 1-1/4 inch pipe union constructed from 316 stainless steel, rated for service up to 150 psi. This fitting connects two sections of pipe while allowing future disassembly without cutting the line. The socket weld end connections provide a strong, leak-resistant joint suited for high-purity and corrosive-fluid applications. Plumbers and pipefitters install this union in process, industrial, and commercial piping systems where 316 stainless material is specified for corrosion resistance. The threaded union nut design allows the two halves to be separated and rejoined during maintenance or system modifications.
This union is appropriate for use in process piping, chemical handling, food and beverage, marine, and other applications where 316 stainless steel is required to resist chloride and corrosive media. It is suited for both commercial and industrial installations operating within the 150 psi pressure rating. The socket weld configuration is common in smaller-diameter piping systems where a full-penetration weld joint is required by the design specification.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 1-1/4 inch socket weld piping systems requiring 316 stainless steel construction and a 150 psi pressure rating.
Installation of socket weld fittings must be performed by a qualified pipefitter or welder in accordance with applicable codes, including ASME B31.3 for process piping. Depressurize, drain, and isolate the affected pipe section completely before beginning work. Socket weld joints require proper gap spacing before welding per applicable welding procedure specifications. Do not exceed the rated pressure of 150 psi in service.
