The MERIT BRASS SW3612D-2420 is a 316 stainless steel socket weld pipe reducer designed to transition between 1-1/2 inch and 1-1/4 inch pipe in high-pressure piping systems. Rated at 3,000 psi, this fitting is built for demanding process, industrial, and commercial plumbing applications where corrosion resistance and pressure integrity are required. The socket weld end connections on both sides allow the fitting to be fillet-welded directly onto the pipe, creating a leak-tight, permanent joint. Licensed pipefitters and pipe welders are the primary trade installing this type of fitting in compliance with applicable codes.
This reducer is suited for use in process piping, chemical handling, marine, food processing, and high-purity fluid systems where 316 stainless steel is specified for its superior chloride and corrosion resistance compared to 304 grade. It is appropriate for both new construction and retrofit piping runs that require a concentric reduction from 1-1/2 inch to 1-1/4 inch nominal pipe size. The 3,000 psi pressure rating makes it compatible with Class 3000 socket weld fittings per standard piping specifications.
Designed as an OEM-style Class 3000 socket weld fitting for use in 316 stainless steel pipe systems requiring a 1-1/2 x 1-1/4 inch reducer connection.
Installation requires a qualified pipefitter or pipe welder. Depressurize and drain the system completely before cutting into any existing piping. Socket weld fittings must be pulled back approximately 1/16 inch from the pipe shoulder before welding to allow for thermal expansion during the fillet weld process. Follow applicable codes including ASME B31.3 for process piping or ASME B31.1 for power piping as required by the job specification.
