The MERIT BRASS SW3612D-0806 is a socket weld pipe reducer designed to transition from a 1/2-inch pipe to a 3/8-inch pipe in high-pressure piping systems. Constructed from 316 stainless steel, this fitting delivers strong corrosion resistance in aggressive media environments, including those involving chlorides, acids, and marine-grade conditions. This reducer is used in commercial and industrial piping systems where a socket weld connection is specified, typically in high-pressure fluid or gas lines. The socket weld end connection style makes it appropriate for small-bore piping runs where threaded connections are not permitted or preferred. Designed as an OEM-style socket weld reducer for use in 1/2-inch to 3/8-inch small-bore, high-pressure piping systems requiring 316 stainless steel fittings and a 3,000 psi pressure class rating.
Installation of socket weld fittings is performed by licensed pipefitters or plumbers in accordance with applicable codes, including ASME B31.3 for process piping. Shut down and fully depressurize the system before cutting or fitting any pipe. Socket weld connections require proper gap spacing between the pipe end and the fitting socket before welding to allow for thermal expansion. Do not substitute this fitting in systems rated above its 3,000 psi pressure class.
