The MERIT BRASS SW3480D-1604 is a socket weld pipe insert fitting designed for high-pressure piping systems. Manufactured from 304 stainless steel, it offers solid corrosion resistance in demanding environments. The fitting measures 1 inch by 1/4 inch and carries a 3,000 psi pressure rating, making it appropriate for compressed gas, steam, hydraulic, and process fluid applications. Socket weld end connections on both sides allow the fitting to be welded directly into the pipeline for a permanent, leak-resistant joint. Plumbers, pipefitters, and industrial maintenance technicians typically install this type of fitting where threaded connections are not acceptable or where a more secure, weld-in solution is required.
This insert fitting suits industrial and commercial piping installations where 304 stainless steel is specified for moderate corrosion resistance and mechanical strength. Common applications include process piping, chemical handling lines, compressed air headers, and steam distribution systems operating within the rated pressure range. The 1 inch by 1/4 inch reducing configuration allows integration between differently sized pipe runs without additional adapters. It is sold individually and is appropriate for new construction, system expansion, or repair work on existing socket weld piping networks.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install component for 3,000 psi class socket weld piping systems using 1 inch by 1/4 inch reducing insert fittings in 304 stainless steel.
Installation should be performed by a qualified pipefitter or welder familiar with socket weld procedures and applicable codes such as ASME B31.1 or B31.3. Depressurize and drain the system completely before cutting into any existing line. Proper socket weld gap clearance and full-penetration fillet welds are required to achieve the rated pressure capacity. Do not use this fitting beyond its rated pressure or in fluid services incompatible with 304 stainless steel without verifying material suitability first.
