The MERIT BRASS SW3412D-2404 is a socket weld pipe reducer designed to transition flow from a 1-1/2 inch line down to a 1/4 inch line in high-pressure piping systems. Constructed from 304 stainless steel, it carries a pressure rating of 3,000 psi, making it suitable for demanding industrial and mechanical applications. The socket weld end connections allow the fitting to be welded directly onto pipe ends for a permanent, leak-resistant joint. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors working on process piping, steam lines, or chemical distribution systems are the primary installers of this fitting.
This reducer is used in industrial and commercial piping installations where a permanent, high-integrity connection is required between two pipes of differing diameters. Socket weld fittings are common in Class 3000 piping assemblies found in refineries, manufacturing facilities, chemical plants, and mechanical rooms. The 304 stainless steel construction provides corrosion resistance in environments exposed to moisture, mild acids, or process fluids.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Class 3000 socket weld piping assemblies using 1-1/2 inch to 1/4 inch reducing connections in stainless steel pipe systems.
Installation must be performed by a qualified pipefitter or welder in accordance with applicable codes such as ASME B16.11 for socket weld fittings. Shut down and depressurize the system completely before cutting into any existing piping. The socket weld joint requires a proper gap between pipe end and socket seat before welding to prevent stress cracking. Do not use this fitting in threaded applications — it is designed exclusively for welded connections.
