Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing any existing fitting or installing this reducer. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads mating into this fitting; do not over-apply sealant in a way that could contaminate the downstream line. Hand-tighten first, then use a pipe wrench to achieve a snug, leak-free connection without cracking the fitting body.
