The MERIT BRASS C112-1608 is a brass pipe reducing coupling designed to connect two female-threaded pipe sections of different diameters in a single inline fitting. It transitions from a 1-inch FNPT inlet to a 1/2-inch FNPT outlet and is rated Class 125, making it suitable for low-to-moderate pressure service in plumbing, HVAC, and general piping systems. The all-brass construction provides corrosion resistance and durability in both wet and dry service environments. This fitting is typically installed by licensed plumbers and pipefitters during new construction, remodel, or repair work where a reduction in pipe diameter is required along a threaded run.
This reducing coupling is used in residential and light commercial piping applications where a threaded inline size reduction is needed. Common install scenarios include domestic water distribution, hydronic heating supply and return lines, compressed air systems, and general utility piping. The FNPT x FNPT end connections are compatible with standard NPT-threaded pipe and fittings across these systems. It is sold individually and ships as a single unit.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard 1-inch and 1/2-inch NPT-threaded pipe systems in plumbing, HVAC hydronic, and general utility piping applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC and local plumbing codes. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing any existing fittings or threading new connections. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to all male NPT threads before assembly. Do not overtighten threaded connections, as brass fittings can crack under excessive torque.
