The MERIT BRASS BS115-0804 is a threaded brass pipe bushing designed to reduce a 1/2-inch male pipe thread (MNPT) connection down to a 1/4-inch female pipe thread (FNPT) connection. It is used to transition between two different pipe sizes within a piping system and is rated Class 125 for moderate-pressure service. The bushing is constructed from brass, making it well suited for water, air, fuel, and general fluid handling applications. Licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians are the primary installers of this fitting in both new construction and service work.
This bushing fits into standard threaded piping assemblies where a size reduction from 1/2 inch to 1/4 inch is required. Typical applications include plumbing supply lines, HVAC refrigerant accessories, compressed air systems, and light industrial fluid distribution. Its compact hex-style body allows installation with a standard pipe wrench or open-end wrench in tight spaces. The Class 125 pressure rating is appropriate for low- to moderate-pressure service lines commonly found in residential and light commercial systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for any threaded piping system using standard NPT connections in the 1/2-inch to 1/4-inch size range.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or qualified HVAC technician. Shut off system pressure and drain the line before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Tighten to snug plus a half to one full turn with a wrench — do not over-tighten brass threaded fittings, as the material is softer than steel and can crack under excess torque.
