The MERIT BRASS 8040-500 is a 6061 aluminum pipe nipple designed for threaded piping assemblies in industrial, commercial, and mechanical systems. Machined to Schedule 40 wall thickness and threaded on both ends, this nipple measures 2.5 inches in nominal diameter and 5 inches in length. The 6061 aluminum alloy provides a strong, lightweight, and corrosion-resistant fitting suited for applications where steel weight or reactivity is a concern. Installation is handled by licensed plumbers and pipefitters working on fluid-transfer and compressed-air systems.
This nipple is used in residential and commercial piping runs where a lightweight threaded connector is required between fittings, valves, or equipment ports. Its Schedule 40 wall rating makes it appropriate for moderate-pressure service in water, air, and compatible fluid applications. The 2.5-inch nominal diameter fits standard NPT fittings of the same size.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install fitting for Schedule 40 threaded piping systems using 2.5-inch nominal NPT connections.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following IPC and applicable local mechanical codes. Depressurize and drain the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid before making up the joint. Do not overtighten aluminum fittings against steel or cast-iron components, as thread galling or cross-threading can damage the softer aluminum material.
