The MERIT BRASS 8040-350 is a Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipple machined from 6061 aluminum alloy and threaded on both ends. It measures 2.5 inches in nominal pipe diameter with an overall length of 3.5 inches. This nipple is used to make short pipe-to-fitting connections in low-pressure fluid, gas, or pneumatic distribution systems where corrosion resistance and light weight are required. It is installed by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors working on industrial, commercial, and light residential piping systems.
This nipple is suited for systems where 6061 aluminum is specified for its combination of corrosion resistance, machinability, and strength-to-weight ratio. Typical applications include compressed air distribution, irrigation manifolds, chemical process lines, and marine or coastal environments where ferrous pipe is not acceptable. The NPT threads on both ends allow direct connection to standard aluminum, brass, or compatible fittings without adapters.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation nipple for 2.5-inch Schedule 40 aluminum piping systems using standard NPT fittings.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or local mechanical codes. Isolate and depressurize the piping system fully before removing or installing any threaded nipple. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid before tightening. Do not use ferrous pipe wrenches without jaw protection on aluminum threads, as gouging can compromise the seal.
