The MERIT BRASS 8020-500 is a Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipple manufactured from 6061 aluminum alloy. It measures 1-1/4 inches in nominal pipe size and 5 inches in length, with threads on both ends for straightforward inline connections. Weighing 0.32 pounds, this nipple is suited for plumbing, industrial piping, and light mechanical systems where aluminum's corrosion resistance and reduced weight are advantages over steel or brass fittings. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters handle this type of fitting in both new construction and retrofit work.
This nipple is used in residential and light commercial piping systems where aluminum construction is specified or preferred. Common applications include air lines, low-pressure fluid systems, and process piping where steel corrosion is a concern. The threaded-on-both-ends configuration makes it compatible with standard NPT fittings, couplings, valves, and other threaded piping components. It installs in the same manner as any Schedule 40 threaded nipple, integrating directly into existing NPT-threaded assemblies without modification.
Designed as a standard Schedule 40 NPT threaded nipple for use with 1-1/4 inch NPT couplings, valves, unions, and other threaded pipe fittings in aluminum or mixed-metal piping systems.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified pipefitters following applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Use an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid and pressure. Avoid over-tightening, as aluminum threads are more susceptible to galling and cross-threading than steel.
