The MERIT BRASS 8016-550 is a Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipple machined from 6061 aluminum alloy, threaded on both ends for direct connection to standard NPT fittings and valves. Measuring 1 inch nominal diameter by 5.5 inches in length, it serves as a close-coupled extension or transition piece in low-pressure piping assemblies. The 6061 alloy provides a solid combination of corrosion resistance and structural integrity, making it a reliable choice for plumbing, industrial, and mechanical system applications where steel or brass nipples are not required or desirable. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the typical installers for this type of fitting.
This nipple is well suited for residential and light commercial piping systems where aluminum is the preferred material, such as compressed air distribution, irrigation headers, or process fluid lines operating within the pressure and temperature limits of Schedule 40 aluminum pipe. The threaded-on-both-ends configuration allows it to connect two female-threaded ports directly without additional adapters. It is packaged and sold individually.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard-service fitting compatible with 1 inch NPT female-threaded fittings, valves, and couplings in Schedule 40 aluminum piping systems.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters. Shut off and depressurize the line before removing or installing any threaded nipple. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for aluminum and the service fluid before making up connections. Do not overtighten threaded aluminum fittings, as the alloy is more susceptible to thread damage than steel or brass.
