The MERIT BRASS 8008-600 is a Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipple machined from 6061 aluminum alloy and threaded on both ends. It measures 0.5 inches in nominal pipe size and 6 inches in length, making it a standard close-to-short nipple used for connecting threaded fittings, valves, and equipment in low-pressure fluid and gas piping systems. At 0.14 pounds, it is lightweight without sacrificing the corrosion resistance that 6061 aluminum provides. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this nipple where iron or steel would introduce corrosion or weight concerns.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, compressed air distribution, and industrial process lines where aluminum is an acceptable material per the applicable code. The 6061 alloy grade offers good machinability and weldability, and the Schedule 40 wall thickness meets standard pressure ratings for threaded aluminum pipe. It is commonly used in equipment tie-ins, panel connections, and short-run assemblies where a fully threaded nipple is required on both ends.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install component for standard NPT threaded piping systems using Schedule 40 aluminum pipe and fittings.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local and national codes, including the International Plumbing Code where adopted. Shut off and depressurize the line before removing or installing any threaded pipe component. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten aluminum nipples against iron or brass fittings, as the softer alloy is susceptible to thread galling.
