The MERIT BRASS 8008-500 is a Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipple designed for threaded piping systems in light industrial, HVAC, and plumbing applications. Machined from 6061 aluminum alloy, it measures 1/2 inch nominal pipe size by 5 inches in length and is threaded on both ends for direct connection to standard NPT fittings and valves. At 0.112 pounds, it is lightweight without sacrificing the pressure and structural integrity expected from Schedule 40 wall thickness. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this nipple where corrosion resistance and weight savings are priorities over ferrous pipe.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial systems where aluminum is preferred — including compressed air distribution, irrigation, certain chemical lines, and low-pressure fluid transfer. The 6061 alloy offers good machinability and weldability, making it a practical choice for field modifications. It meets OSHA standards, making it appropriate for workplace and industrial installations where compliance documentation is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-fit nipple for 1/2 inch NPT threaded piping systems using Schedule 40 aluminum pipe and fittings.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC and OSHA requirements. Shut off system pressure and drain the line before removing or installing any threaded nipple. Use PTFE tape or a compatible thread sealant rated for aluminum on all NPT connections — avoid pipe dope compounds that can corrode aluminum alloy. Do not overtighten; aluminum threads are more susceptible to galling and cross-threading than ferrous pipe.
