The MERIT BRASS 8008-400 is a 6061 aluminum pipe nipple designed for threaded piping assemblies in plumbing, industrial, and mechanical systems. Machined to Schedule 40 wall thickness, this nipple measures 1/2 inch nominal pipe size and 4 inches in length, with threads on both ends for direct connection between fittings or into threaded ports. At 0.12 pounds, it is lightweight without sacrificing the structural integrity expected in a Schedule 40 fitting. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this nipple as a standard connecting element wherever aluminum piping is specified.
This nipple is suited for residential and commercial piping applications where aluminum construction is preferred over steel or brass — typically in compressed air lines, low-pressure fluid systems, and OSHA-regulated installations. Its 6061 alloy construction offers good corrosion resistance and machinability, making it a practical choice for fabricated assemblies and retrofit work in mechanical rooms and utility spaces.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard 1/2 inch NPT threaded plumbing and piping systems specifying Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipples.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter. Shut off the fluid or air supply and depressurize the line before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape appropriate for the service medium before making up the connection. Avoid over-tightening, which can crack aluminum threads; follow applicable IPC or IFGC guidelines for fitting makeup on aluminum piping.
