The MERIT BRASS 8008-150 is a 6061 aluminum pipe nipple sized at 1/2 inch nominal diameter by 1-1/2 inches in length. It is threaded on both ends to Schedule 40 specifications, making it a standard close-to-short nipple used for connecting threaded pipe fittings in low-pressure fluid, air, and gas distribution systems. The 6061 alloy provides good corrosion resistance and adequate strength for general industrial and mechanical piping applications. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians install this type of nipple where aluminum is preferred over steel or brass to reduce weight or avoid galvanic incompatibility with aluminum system components.
This nipple fits into residential, commercial, and light industrial piping systems where 1/2 inch NPT threaded connections are required. It is well suited for compressed air lines, low-pressure hydraulic circuits, irrigation assemblies, and general utility plumbing where aluminum construction is specified or preferred. The short 1-1/2 inch body length makes it a practical spacer or connector between close-mounted fittings and valves.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation nipple for any 1/2 inch NPT threaded piping system requiring Schedule 40 aluminum pipe nipples.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter using pipe wrenches and appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid. Depressurize and isolate the piping system completely before disassembling any threaded connection. Avoid overtightening, which can crack aluminum threads; use only the turns of engagement appropriate for aluminum NPT fittings. Verify that mating fittings are also aluminum or a compatible alloy to prevent galvanic corrosion in wet service.
